CV

Suyash have studied Audiology and Speech Language Pathology as an undergraduate student at ‘Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Hearing Handicapped’ in India and ‘the University of Nebraska - Lincoln’ in United States of America. He worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the Speech Production Laboratory of Jordan Green from 2008 to 2010. His work involved data collection using functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) for assessing cognitive load and processing the tongue movement data collected from patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) using Electromagnetic Articulography (EMA). From April 2010 until June 2013, he studied Psychoacoustics and Experimental Psychology under the supervision of Walt Jesteadt at the Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. His work in psychoacoustics laboratory focused on assessing contribution of various spectral bands to overall loudness of broadband sounds and study of mechanisms of masking using molecular psychophysical methods. He also collaborated with Nicholas Smith on measuring neural correlates of stream segregation using EEG and with Stephen Neely on development of a fast adaptive categorical loudness scaling method.

Since June 2013, Suyash is working on his PhD thesis under the guidance of Bastian Epp and Torsten Dau at the Technical University of Denmark. A goal of his PhD thesis is to develop a modeling framework to quantitatively evaluate the electrical stimulation strategies used in cochlear implants. Specifically, he is working on modeling the auditory nerve responses to stimulation using various pulse shapes.

Research Interests

Psychoacoustics, cochlear implants, neural modelling.
